A Site For Sure Eyes

Every word here on every page and post has two principal aims:

  1. To assert the power of reason;
  2. To proclaim with passion that violence always fails, even in apparent victory.

Now, Who Am I?

This won’t take long. Proud to be a teacher; I hope I am still. Fifty years of being one: K-12 29, and universities 21. OK at sport. Cricket Blues from Newcastle University and University of New South Wales.  Age 80+.

I was asked for an image here. This picture of another moment of happiness seems a good idea, as a few grumbles are in the offing.

Some (after) thoughts on Honourable Members

As I mention in my post on education, I’m pretty emotional at the moment thinking Shakespeare’s Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream got it right with:

“Lord, what fools these mortals be.”

There is so much going on behind the back of Virtue that I have started to think that silence is just fools gold.

So that’s what I’m doing here, battle-scarred Mr Levi of classrooms and Royce Levi of lecture halls, trying to focus on a few things that seem in need of fixing. When you are an octogenarian, it is better than parking and karking. I accept that some people will say: “Not in your case.”

On every post or page you will occasionally find little afterthoughts. You know, ideas that pop into your head the way they did for Mole in Kenneth Grahame’s The Wind In The Willows. Always they were too late. How he wished he had thought of them at the moment when repartee mattered!

As I think of them, I’ll label and put them in, in the hope that they too can do some good. So on we go as best we can, trying to link things.

That’s it. Pleased to meet you here.

Just for fun before we end this first page, here’s a bit of laughter, possibly to create a smile or two.

Thanks for coming here.

 Peace brothers and sisters!

Oh and here’s another Afterthought.

It seems too simplistic that just repeating a persuasive message should increase its effect, but that’s exactly what psychological research finds (again and again). Repetition is one of the easiest and most widespread methods of persuasion. In fact it’s so obvious that we sometimes forget how powerful it is. Note well the site below. It IS worth close study.

You can say that again!

  1. it’s hard to change people’s minds, and silence is a sign that the mistreatment of refugees is acceptable in their eyes. whenever I try to start discussions in forums about this, very few people answer, and once I had the question deleted within minutes. there’s a strange silence surrounding it all, which is ominous in itself.
it’s nice to find someone who cares and tries to help. if everyone protest, i believe it can all be stopped. God bless you for doing your best.

    1. I have a little quote from Plato: “When men condemn thee, live so that nobody will believe them.” Thank you for your support and efforts to improve our world. All my best wishes.

      1. Royce,
thank you for your efforts in ‘educating’ our further generations… I truly hope they find the time to read and learn .. I have never heard this quote of Plato’s but I am glad of it. It says much about ‘us’ as a people, doesn’t it.
God bless and good health to you.
Have faith that all these great stories will come to fruition.

  2. Hi Royce
Thanks for ringing me and making time to help me with my blog/website.
    Look forward to seeing you.
PS I think of you often – especially when I am confronted by constant advertising in public spaces and think about their ‘controlling’ influences. They promote ‘business as usal’ – when we have to rapidly ‘scale down’ with the crisis of climate change upon us.

    1. Thank you Janine.

This site is honoured to have support from you, a teacher of vast experience and a constant worker to preserve the beauty of our forests and other landscapes, indeed the very existence of our planet.

Work on; there are many voices of thanks blowin’ in the wind.

    1. Thanks Jon. Good to hear from you. My respect for your sister and colleagues is immense. Kindness, compassion and competence are not newsworthy these days are they?
