The Communist
“He’s a Communist.” Andrew Bragg on the Prime Minister.
That politician cares for the needy
He takes the money away from the greedy
Taxes the rich with a welfare intent
So that the money is clearly well spent
He’s a communist
His party pays our medical cost
And so a balanced budget is lost
Big spending they say his party promotes
It’s just a scheme to win more votes
He’s a communist
Another folly is education for all
Thus big government is the call
The need for money never relaxes
So he makes neocons pay their taxes
He’s a communist
His stupid brain is habit forming
It draws attention to global warming
This leaves commerce in the lurch
And knocks the big birds off their perch
He’s a communist
He’s green and prohibits the quest for oil
Demands it is kept beneath the soil
As well as that he prohibits coal
Which leaves big business in a hole
He’s a communist
His thinking has an unwelcome direction
He is likely to win an election
If he does we fear the demise
Of our lucrative profit from free enterprise
He’s a communist
Radicalisation
“Evil triumphs when good men do nothing.”
Author unknown
Hey there
When children are murdered with bombs
When homes become rubble coffins
When hospitals are deliberately destroyed
When schools are blasted into mere memories
I am radicalised
If asylum seekers are imprisoned contemptuously
If hijabs are worn disdainfully by a politician
If racism hurls abuse at immigrants
If refuge is denied escapees from totalitarian regimes
I am radicalised
After privatised state owned banks become cartels
A privatised industry becomes a megacorporation
A life-saving drug is too costly to buy
A conglomerate doesn’t pay any taxes
I am radicalised
As the military industrial complex makes a fortune
While third world citizens die of starvation
Have no social life
Or resources to counter plagues
I am radicalised
What can I do then?
I am not a terrorist
Violence is anathema to me
So what can I do?
Why, write this poem
On Political Integrity
The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter. Winston Churchill
That loquacious politician is suddenly popular
Have you noticed?
She was once a nonentity
Now she is suddenly in vogue
Let us explore the reasons
First she exploits the racism underlying many societies
She gives voice to many secret impulses
Distrust of foreigners
Religious bigotry
Longing for a better lifestyle
Freedom to defame
Anti current establishment
It all sounds so good to gullible listeners
Where evidence and research are dirty words
If fact she panders to the illiterate ignorant
Her promises are like caviar at Christmas
Stepping stones to paradise
Utopia revealed in simple but wrong language
Unsupported battle cries with absolutely no proofs
And so the empty vessels ramble on to likely despair
She is the brain child of the ultra-wealthy
A puppet fostering corporate ambition
A money-making device
But alas also the passport to Dystopia
Loon Tune
They say I’m a liar with my pants on fire
Doing dark deeds to fulfil my desire
Acting the fool at fever pitch
Breaking laws to make me rich
Yet many loons vote for me
I am the boss and often act cross
You’d think they’d killed my albatross
My Board of Peace war mongers deplore
But I’m the halfwit who starts a war
Yet many loons vote for me
When I am found guilty I curse the judges
And tell the world about my grudges
When news condemns me I call it fake
This does not alter the decisions I make
Yet many loons vote for me
I am a racist giving immigrants Hell
I persecute them and I do it well
I often tell lies about faulty elections
And spread that nonsense in all directions
Yet many loons vote for me
Hungry for power I hire many a factotum
And when they obey me I promote ‘em
With each shady deal my profit is real
And my family gets wealthy with the money I steal
Yet many loons vote for me
I know no history but claim to make it
If something goes wrong I simply fake it
I often use superlatives for I am the best
I break many laws but avoid arrest
Yet many loons vote for me still
Apathy
Once I saw a broken man
Lying in the street
Abandoned in defeat.
But I did nothing
For I was prosperous and free.
Once I saw a foreigner
Punished for the crime
Of birth in another clime.
But I did nothing
For I was a patriot and free.
Once I saw a malefactor
Under fierce attack
For the sin of being black.
But I did nothing
For I was fair-skinned and free.
Once I saw a woman
Become a weeping wraith
In the garments of her faith.
But I did nothing
For I was established and free.
Once I saw a prisoner
Held without a trial
Because of a government file.
But I did nothing
For I was lawful and free.
Now I see my nemesis
In the doorway of my night
Pounding without respite.
But I can do nothing
For my apathy set him free.
