Shadows Hiding The Sun

We Shall Overcome

Look at him
So much money he has unlimited power
Doesn’t need to ask for respect
Or understanding
Except for his business enterprises
Believes in violence with disagreement
Has fascist empathy
Publicly gave a blackshirt salute
Has no pity
No compassion for humanity
Dismembered USAID causing thousands of deaths
Domination is this man’s substitute for freedom
So he demands to be free to rule
Realism is his other name for racism
And the symptoms pervade his animality
That is his modus vivendi*
What is to be done about this?
Our only hope is to unite
All plutocrats depend on the obedience of the masses
We blindly accept control as obedience is taught
But it need not be
As one we are frail and weak
But together we are strong
So victims unite
Stand together with each other
Learn from past triumphs
Listen to the music
And then we shall overcome

The Power Of One

It’s just me
I am totally alone
And the world is filling me with stress
Corporations
Leave me threatened by war and penury
I am old
Apparently past it
Can’t walk
Cannot drive any more
My mobility depends on a wheel chair
And a kind spirit to push me
Yet even so I have an agenda
I will give love to immigrants
Not sanction them for being different
But welcome them
For giving new words, new foods, new ideas
To a stagnant white Australia
I will ignore
The military industrial complex
I will not vote for its weapons
That bring vast financial gain to the wrong people
I will cherish science loudly
And mock the deniers of climate change
I will laugh at small government
As it sells off my welfare to greedy profiteers
Just a little voice mine
Emanating from a weak body
From a life nearly over
Amidst vicious control by the rich and powerful
But the reader of this poem has heard me
So the humble power of one has begun

Hate Is Big Business

Have you noticed
How politicians find an enemy for you
When they seek your vote?
If your life is troubled
They invent a reason
Then promise a solution
Usually with little or no evidence
During my time
Charlatans have blamed immigrants for so much
They share no evidence
No compassion for fellow human beings
Have no problem with support from rich xenophobes
They get lots of assistance
Lots of money
Lots of social media propaganda
And so the witless can win popularity
As a racist motto is reborn:
“Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Führer”
“One people, one nation, one leader”
And then the money flows
For industries causing global warming
For media biased supporters
And weapons to conquer contrived enemies
Yes hate is big business
It is part of small government
Balanced budgets with no waste on welfare
Privatising everything
Especially for weaponry and prisons
In the meantime
Thousands are dying as war victims
Genocide is a better way of putting it
Third World countries are vastly under privileged
While our migrants are probed on the Australian way of life

Maggie Mindless

There she is
What a fizz
It’s a problem every teacher fears
She has no cerebral hemispheres
Like some food without seasoning
She’s inept at thinking and reasoning
To make things worse
All revealed in this verse
As a source of sheer jocularity
She has increasing popularity
It’s a trouble because she’s so arty
And has formed a political party
What is the problem? You may ask
Why it’s hopeless, she’s simply not up to the task
Words are her problem; she lacks basic skill
Which invites her rivals to come in for the kill
Her lack of awareness with language is absurd
She thinks mono and multi make the same word
Not only that, many terms are unknown
Tolerance and compassion she leaves alone
Instead she spreads hatred of so many things
For science and other cultures her alarm bell rings
Working people and government regulations
Seem to give her tribulations
And so she blunders along
Singing her mindless song
Her love of herself brings doubtful survival
As clearly with that she does have no rival
She worships profusely a devious boss
Whose humane values are a tragic loss
But above all these many things sinister
Maggie hopes to be our Prime Minister

Please Let Me Stay

I now a wanderer who does not wish to roam
I now forced to run away and dare not use my name
Home is blown apart for us just like my broken heart
Loved ones vanish all at once, in the choke of war
Even my dog is dead
I been seen in many places by unfamiliar eyes
So may it please you Sir, as I kneel upon your shore,
Please let me stay

I now a wanderer who does not wish to roam
I now forced to run away and dare not use my name
Windows broken by strangers with rat-tat-tatting guns
Triggers pulled by soldiers, all with unknown skins
Even my dog is dead
I not find a friendly face no matter where I tread
So may it please you Sir, as I kneel upon your shore,
Please let me stay

I now a wanderer who does not wish to roam
I now forced to run away and dare not use my name
My school and town no longer there, danger everywhere
Old world gone like a daydream melting
Even my dog is dead
I try to be brave so many times, but I only cry instead
So may it please you Sir, as I kneel upon your shore,
Please let me stay
